The Minnewaska Area wrestling team lost three matches at the Pelican Rapids quadrangular, Thursday. The Lakers, who went into the competition with a 2-0 record, left with a 2-3 mark after falling to Frazee (34-30), Pelican Rapids (37-36) and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (50-16). DGF is possibly the top team from Section 8A.
The only Minnewaska wrestler going 3-0 for the Lakers was Miles Wildman at 133 pounds. “We have a pretty young lineup this season and I feel we didn’t have our best matches at the Pelican quad,” coach Chip Rankin said. “It’s early in the year, though, so we’ll keep working and try to peak by tournament time.”
This week, the Lakers have two more competitions scheduled before taking some time off for the holidays. Minnewaska Area was set to host a home triangular, Thursday, before getting ready for the Pine River Invitational, Saturday.
• This year’s Minnewaska Area wrestling roster includes seniors Chase Smith, Evan Friese and Noah Jensen; juniors Porter Weets, Jeremiah McGee, Evan Armstrong, Tyler Gregory, Eric Bowen, Riley Dell and Tate Anderson; sophomores Austyn Schuler, Jack Payne, Braylen Scharmer, Landon Schiffler, Miles Wildman, Riley Spindler, Preston Wilson and Tyler Kohn; ninth-graders Riley Weisel, Sadie Daniels, Mari Jordahl, Alex Adams, Caleb Ashler, Grady Braaten, Isaiah Rosario, Jude Bailey, Sawyer Erickson, Sawyer Taufen, Soren Jergenson, Xavier Johnson and Zayden Johnson; eighth-graders Clara Rankin, Blair Kindel, Charlie Taintor, Jaden Vig, Jaxson Vig, Karsen Fenger and Rowan Wilson; and seventh-graders Lillie Rogers, Michael Swensrud, Henry Cihlar, Brayden Erickson, DJ Cruz, Tate Braaten, Cade Kittelson, Jayda Hormann, Terrence Swensrud, Callan Erickson, Kira Ashler, Adrian Radil and Gage Boelke.
