The Minnewaska Area boys and girls basketball teams are both very balanced this season with 8-10 players playing regularly for both teams.
The girls team has had four different players lead the team in scoring, including Sydney Dahl, who recently went over 1,000 career points during a game at BOLD last Tuesday.
She has led or tied for the team-lead in scoring in nine of the first 15 games. Megan Thorfinnson has led the team in scoring five times, while Addy Kath and Alia Randt have also led the Lakers in scoring for at least one game.
Kath’s 25 points against Rocori is the season-high for the girls team this year, while Dahl, Thorfinnson and Randt also have at least one 20-point game each this season.
Meanwhile, seven different girls have also led the team in rebounding at least one game each, including Dahl, who has led the team seven times.
Also leading the Lakers in rebounding at least one game this winter are Olivia Danielson, Kath, Thorfinnson, Randt, Lauryn Ankeny and Jayda Kolstoe. The top rebounding game for the girls this year is the 14 boards pulled down by Dahl during a win at Montevideo.
• The boys team is even more balanced as five players have led or tied for the team lead in scoring through the first 13 games, including Marc Gruber, who has led the team eight times, along with Tenzin Dahl, Luke Danielson, Tristan O’Neil and Connor Frey.
On the rebounding side, Dahl, Danielson and Zach Palmer have led the Lakers in rebounding four times each, while Marc Gruber was the team leader twice and Owen Meuelebrock and Jacob Mrnak led or tied for the team lead once each.
The top scoring game for the Lakers this year is 21 points set by Marc Gruber during the season opener against KMS. He also has two other 20-point games this season.
The team-best for rebounding is the 11 boards Palmer puled down during the season game against BBE.
