Ann Engen, 83, of Glenwood, died on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
A memorial service celebrating Ann’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood, with Pastor Brenda Boogren officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. and run until the time of service. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Ann Elizabeth Engen was born on July 21, 1941, in Minneapolis. She was the cherished third of four children born to Frank and Olga (Swenson) Knoll. Ann’s early years were spent in Minneapolis, where she attended Henry High School, graduating in 1959.
On Nov. 18, 1961, Ann married Ellwood Engen in Hennepin. Together, they built a loving home on a farm near Lake Scandi, and were blessed with five children.
Throughout her life, Ann was a pillar of support not only to her family but also to her community. She worked tirelessly as a nursing assistant and served as a first responder, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her commitment to service extended to her involvement with the Pope County First Responders, the Gilchrist Township Board, and an impressive 34-year tenure on the Glacial Ridge Hospital board.
Ann’s interests were as diverse as they were enriching. She found joy in puzzles, reading and gardening. Her love for bird watching was matched only by the love she had for her family. Ann’s caring spirit shone brightest when she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a woman who stood up for what she believed in, with an analytical mind that approached life’s challenges with grace and a positive attitude. Her hardworking nature was matched by her caring and generous heart, making her a cherished member of her community.
Ann is survived by her daughters, Kristine Engen and Lori Pomerleau; grandchildren, Cherie Rust, Bobby Jo Hall, Mason Pomerleau, Amber Pomerleau and Amanda Hall; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Ross, Layla Ross, Zaden Ross, Isabella Johnson and Landon Johnson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ellwood; infant sons, John and James; daughter, Patricia Hall; grandson, Shawn Hall; and her siblings, Frank, Richard and Betty Lou.
