Franklin John Karels, 69, of St. Michael, passed away peacefully at his home on Nov. 1, 2024.

Born on March 19, 1955, Frank was known for his dedication and skill as an auto mechanic. He owned and operated his own business in Brooten for 33 years, serving the community with his expertise and mentorship.

Frank was a man of simple pleasures, deeply passionate about the outdoors. He was an avid deer hunter, always looking forward to the season, and cherished his fishing trips to Canada. He spent many summers at Hobo Park in Starbuck fishing and spending time with family and friends. Above all, spending time with his grandchildren brought him immense joy, creating memories that will be treasured by his family.

Frank leaves behind many people who loved him: Lou Ann, his wife of 49 years; sons, Nathan (Elizabeth) and Todd (Kristi); grandchildren, Peter, Sarah, Haley, Kaylee, Gavin, Keegan and Aubree; sisters, Colleen (Mike) Barber, Cheryl (Jeff) Plathe, Marian (Jeff) Bloom, Lauralie Karels and Gerry (Carl) Kupres; brothers, Neal (Cindy) Karels, Brian (Juni) Karels and Brad (Susan) Karels; sister-in-law, Sandy Karels; stepbrothers, Dene (Pat) Ohm, Jim (Dee) Ohm and Leland Baldwin; stepsisters, Darnell (Roger) Hanson and Sherry (Glenn) Mork; and many nieces and nephews.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Lauretta and Emmanuel Karels; stepmother, Arlene Karels; brothers, Steve and Ray; stepbrother, Dick Ohm; and stepsister, Judy Larson.

Frank’s life was marked by his strong work ethic, willingness to help anyone at any time, love for his family and passion for the great outdoors. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him.
