Troy Michael Wagner, known affectionately as Troy to his friends and family, passed away on Dec. 14, 2024, at the age of 58. Born on Nov. 6, 1966, in Glenwood, he was a man of laughter and wit who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Troy’s final days were spent in Lowry, surrounded by the love and memories he had created throughout his life.
A true son of Glenwood, Troy grew up cherishing his hometown and the community that raised him. He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1985, a year marked by the school’s memorable journey to the state basketball tournament, a team Troy was proud to be a part of. His athletic skills and school spirit earned him a place in the Minnewaska Area Athletic Hall of Fame, a tribute to his dedication and talent. Following his high school achievements, Troy furthered his education at Concordia College in Moorhead.
Troy’s zest for life led him to Orlando, Fla., where for two decades he captivated audiences with his stand-up comedy and charmed listeners with his voice acting. His humor and intelligence were the cornerstones of his career, making him a beloved figure both on and off stage. In 2017, Troy returned to his roots in the Glenwood area and settled in Lowry. His later years were spent sharing his gift for storytelling as a writer for morning radio shows and serving up smiles as a part-time bartender.
An avid sports fan, Troy’s enthusiasm for the game was infectious, whether he was watching from the stands or discussing stats with friends. His love for movies and music was matched only by his culinary skills.
Troy is survived by his loving parents, Bruce and Terri Wagner of Glenwood. His cherished cat, Chloe, will miss his gentle touch and soothing voice. Troy’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of his aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends who were fortunate to know him.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Unc and Ev Anderson, Phil and Dorothy Wagner and Glenn Hoplin, who no doubt welcomed him with open arms.
Troy’s quick wit and intelligence never failed to light up a room. His ability to weave humor into even the most mundane stories was a testament to his creative spirit. Troy’s legacy is one of joy, laughter and the power of a well-timed joke and his memory will continue to inspire smiles for years to come.
As we bid farewell to Troy Michael Wagner, we celebrate his life. His journey was one of passion, laughter and love – a journey that touched the lives of many. Troy’s spirit will forever remain a part of the community he loved, and his stories will continue to be told with fondness and a chuckle. He was a man who truly embodied the best of us, and he will be deeply missed.
The world is a little less bright without Troy’s presence, but the echoes of his laughter will resonate always. Rest in peace, dear friend, until we meet again and share in the joy you brought to our lives.
