Thanks to those who carry on a great tradition

From Steve Nestor,

(An old thespian)

Had to write this quick note after reading the wonderful article in the Tribune noting the excellent performance and reaction to the Minnewaska Area High School’s music department’s production, “Seussical the Musical”…… to read about the accolades and high fives makes an somewhat old thespian smile and with great remembrances of past productions and to say thank you to director Jeff Iverson, cast and technicians.

I am sure, I am not the only one to feel this way. No, there are so many folks that experienced such fine direction and fulfillment as former students in various capacities when attending Glenwood H.S. and MHS. Yes, we were blessed with band, choir and theatre direction for oh so many years.

I can tell you no one would be more proud or willing to stand and applaud then former English teacher and stage director, Lee Paulson. Lee came to Glenwood in 1954 to teach English. But not only was he a great teacher, but is most known for his  ability to bring one production after another to the stage. Whether it was a junior class or senior class play, they were all top notch ! However, most know him for being a director and founding member of the Minnewaska Showstoppers.

The initial Showstoppers presentation was in 1972 called “Showstoppers”, a variety show at the present day Central Square Auditorium. Lee went on to direct for many, many years. He retired from teaching at Glenwood H.S. in 1990. But for several years stayed on with the Showstoppers. The names of those he worked with are too many to put in this note, but they know who they are…and those who are still with us must feel the same way that he would and or as I do. For that I want to thank those who have revived the theatre program and look forward to reading more such articles.

Yes, there has never been a more noted director than Ordell Lee Paulson, some 15 State appearances in the One act Play Competitions at G.H.S. and two after being asked to come out of retirement and direct at MAHS!  Note: to go to the State Competition in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, we were up against all schools. There were no classes then.

Thanks to those who have picked up the baton and will carry on the great tradition.

Concerned that Glenwood denies request to build homes

From Carrie Bloms,

Glenwood

I am wondering why the city denied the person of building new homes in Glenwood.  Why would he have to pay for city streets before building?  These homes would bring new people into Glenwood, which means more individuals who pay city taxes and utilities.  The area by A & W is plain and with new homes that area would be beautified. The city maintains the streets and should be kept up to the standards that the taxpayers pay to have maintained.

Concerned.
