Starbuck Depot to host the 31st annual Eple Tiden this Saturday, Sept. 17

From the Starbuck Depot, Committee members

The Starbuck Depot will be hosting the 31st annual Eple Tiden Open House this year on Saturday, Sept. 17. As usual there will be opportunities for craft and produce vendors to display as well as the Depot Square buildings to be open. In late July, the WCCO “Finding Minnesota” team made a visit to the depot to produce an episode about the World’s Largest Lefse and the Hall of Fame. That short segment has brought a lot of attention to the depot and generated a lot of visitors either by making contacts with inquiries through the Facebook and website or just stopping by to check it out. We have opened the doors at many times for people that have called ahead or just the happenstance of our noticing someone looking around and using it as an opportunity to visit. That has brought a lot of positive responses. We expect that there will be additional visitors from outside the area during Eple Tiden and hope that you will visit too. Please consider helping to support the Starbuck Depot by stopping by to purchase a noon meal or just a piece of lefse and some coffee, everything helps and it is not taken for granted! This year we are introducing a raffle to help generate extra funds for improvements around the Depot. A few dollars here and there from a large number of people is an incredible help and we are grateful for the wonderful community support over the past 30+ years.  The Starbuck Times has provided an invaluable source of coverage through the years, and we are thankful for that, too.  Another source of publicity is word of mouth, and we ask that you simply share something positive to someone else as it is it important for our community and area.

Thanks for support at Terrace Mill

From Teresa L. Mayer, Terrace

The Terrace Mill Foundation would like to express their deepest appreciation to Pat Illies, owner of Bonanza Valley Lumber, in Brooten, for all the supplies needed to replace the roof on the Norwegian Cottage in Terrace. Pat generously donated architect shingles starter and cap shingles, drip edge and metal valley, ice guard and nail gun. Pat’s generous donation made it possible for Thomas and Theresa Mayer of Terrace, who provided the labor of love, to restore the integrity of the cottage for years to come.

The Norwegian cottage is part of the Terrace Mill property and located next to the Mill Café on the left. Years ago the Rosemaling experts, who came to teach Rosemaling classes at the mill, painted the furniture and murals in the cottage. That is how it got it’s name.
