There is a cost for adding another official holiday

Another ‘official’ holiday

Juneteenth just occurred. Juneteen, the 12th federal holiday, was signed into law in 2021 as the “Juneteenth National Independence Day Act.”

On June 19th alone   $4,740,000,000 was paid in wages to government employees who had the day off…based on my calculations.

That’s at $25.00/hour  for 23.7 million federal, state and municipal employees (usafacts.org –  5/17/21).   Twelve federal holidays cost us $568,800,000,000 –that’s $568 billion.

Also on  June 19th, a Monday,  while 23 million plus enjoyed a three-day weekend with pay,  many of you reading this, went to work.
