Title 1 game night at MAES helps students succeed

From Jean Barkeim,

MAES Teacher

What a great way to break up the winter blues! We held a Title 1 Pizza and Game Night at Minnewaska Elementary. After a short presentation by Mrs. Currens about Title 1 services, our students and their guests were invited to play games to practice math skills, each student was given a book to encourage reading at home and given game supplies to play the games that they learned about that night. Thank you to everyone that attended our event. It was a fun night filled with pizza, games, and friends!

Title I is a federally funded program that provides extra interventions to students in the areas of math and reading. All Minnewaska Elementary students are assessed three times a year and based on these assessments, it is determined which students would benefit from additional support. With parent permission, intervention services are provided daily in small groups or individually. The goal of Title 1 is to help students attain the skills needed to be successful in the classroom curriculum.
