Some insults should not be ignored…
From Vicki Aaberg,
Starbuck
I have been called the following by GOP Vice-Presidential candidate J. D. Vance:
Sociopathic, (characterized by asocial or antisocial behavior or exhibiting antisocial personality disorder), Deranged, Psychotic and Crazy cat lady.
Told that I make the U.S. less mentally stable, that I don’t have a direct stake in the country or much of an investment in the future of the country, that I should pay higher taxes, that I should have fewer voting rights, I should not be able to participate in this democratic republic, and that I am less engaged in civil society. All because I don’t have children.
I am normally reluctant to put my thoughts out to the general public and have never written a letter to the editor before, but some things just should not be ignored. Maybe you know me and my husband, or maybe you do not. But I will just say a few things about me, I don’t believe I can be characterized as any of the first four items, as far as the rest I do have a stake in the country and a stake in the future of the country. I have nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends, friends with children, and just children in general that I care about.
As far as being less involved in civil society I am a member of the Starbuck VFW Post Auxiliary, Starbuck Veterans Auxiliary, Starbuck Chamber of Commerce, Starbuck Depot Society, Friends of Glacial Lake State Park, Friends of the Glenwood Library, Brown Bag book club, and GFWC Starbuck. I have participated in and volunteered for events for all these organizations. Less engaged?
We should all be worried that someone who makes these statements and judgments about a segment of society who either don’t or can’t have children may be second in line to lead our country. He may have said these things earlier on in his career, but he is now doubling down on his insulting and insensitive opinions and shows a complete lack of Christian compassion.
