Senior News

By Diane Kittelson, Pope County Senior Services Consultant/Coordinator

Hello, seniors. The Pope County TRIAD is inviting senior citizens to join us for Coffee with a Cop. Triad is a partnership of three organizations; Law Enforcement, Senior Citizens and Community Groups. It has benefits for both seniors and law enforcement. Law Enforcement assists seniors by letting them get to know their local law enforcement and bringing them information to protect them and also for them to share with others in their communities. Seniors assist law enforcement by being the eyes and ears of their communities. The Pope County Sheriff Office, Starbuck Police Department, Glenwood Police Department, Western Prairie Human Services and local community members decided to start meeting different places through-out Pope County with the hopes of getting this important information out to more seniors. The next Coffee with a Cop will be on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Farwell Community Center at 2 p.m. Please join us.

October is also Blind Awareness month; as we age, so do our eyes. According to the World Health Organization, “everyone, if they live long enough, will experience at least one eye condition in their lifetime. It is important to remember that neglecting your eye care could affect you more than just financially, it can also affect your quality of life.
