Long Beach City Council

By Mayor Mike Pfeiffer

We’re thrilled to launch this new monthly column, brought to you by the Mayor and City Council of Long Beach MN in cooperation with our selected newspaper the Pope County Tribune.  Hopefully, this will not only keep you informed about the latest community happenings but also strengthen the bridge between the city officials and the citizens we proudly serve.

This August, we’re kicking off our first column with an invitation to engage directly in an event that mirrors the spirit of our community—giving and support.  We are calling on the vibrant and spirited residents of Long Beach to volunteer at the United Way of Douglas & Pope Counties Food Drop.  This event is scheduled for August 29th at the Glenwood United Church, conveniently located across from the Dental Health Office up on the hill.

Why volunteer?  Each month, the United Way hosts a free food distribution event, alternating between Douglas and Pope Counties, to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.  These events are pivotal in providing necessary aid to our neighbors, but their success relies heavily on the hands and hearts of volunteers.

For those new to the event, you can register to volunteer below.  If you are in need of food support, you can visit the United Way’s website to register to receive food here.  The city has also proudly contributed $2,500 to this cause, funded through the Minnesota 10% Gaming Fund.  This fund, generated from local charitable gaming activities, is earmarked specifically to support community projects just like this one.

Here’s where you come in:  we need volunteers for two-hour shifts.  You can join the setup team starting at 10:30 AM or help with distribution beginning at 1 PM.  To register as a volunteer, please call the Mayor’s Hotline at 320-634-6710.  Lending a hand at this event is not just about the work done; it’s about the lives touched and the community strengthened.

We believe that when we come together as a community, there’s nothing we can’t achieve.  We encourage you to be a part of this fulfilling experience.  Whether you can spare a couple of hours or just want to spread the word, your involvement is what makes Long Beach MN truly special.

Stay tuned for our next update and more opportunities to get involved or find out what is new in Long Beach MN.  Remember, for more information or to leave your comments, visit our website at www.longbeachmn.com or connect with us on Facebook at facebook.com/longbeachmn.  We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you on the 29th!
