The Minnewaska Area Schools Homecoming week got underway Sunday evening with the senior girls playing the junior girls in a powderpuff football game.  The senior girls defeated the juniors 28-22.  Above, McKenzie Luetmer takes the ball on offense for the seniors with blockers providing some space to run.  More photos of Homecoming week will be in next week’s issue.

MAS Homecoming parade is this Friday

There will be a Homecoming Parade in Glenwood this Friday, Sept. 30, with Minnewaska Area School staff and students participating, according to MAS Superintendent Chip Rankin.

The parade begins at 1 p.m. starting at on 5th Street SE at about Park Road and traveling down 8th Ave. SE toward the lake and ending at Highway 104.  This is the same route used recently for the Waterama parade.  Last year the parade was held in Starbuck to celebrate the completion of the Complete Streets project in that city.

The pandemic caused the parade to be cancelled in 2020.  The recent MAS parade was started in 2018 in downtown Glenwood to celebrate the Complete Streets project completion in Glenwood and then again near the elementary schools in Glenwood in 2019.

The public is encouraged to attend the parade and a patio party at Glenwood State Bank Stadium at Veterans Field starting at 5 p.m. before the 7 p.m. MAHS football game against Rockford Area.  A Homecoming Dance for students in grades 9-12 will be held after the game.
