MAS to expand its preschool to Starbuck

Minnewaska Area School District announces an expansion of their Little Lakers Preschool program with a second location to open in Starbuck for fall 2023. The location, in collaboration with Minnewaska Head Start, will be located at 500 John Street in Starbuck.

“The limited availability of preschool openings and the decline of daycare providers in the area has been an increasing struggle for families,” said Scott Lempka, Principal of the Minnewaska preschool through third grade learners. “We are excited for the opportunity to provide additional resources to area children.”

Little Lakers Preschool serves children ages 3-5 years. The collaborative preschool program focuses on supporting the full range of the child’s social, emotional, and developmental needs, while preparing them for a seamless transition to Kindergarten. Little Lakers Preschool is staffed by licensed teachers. The program also provides access to support staff including speech, physical, and occupational therapy and mental health services.

“A new location in Starbuck just made sense when we looked at the ways to better support our community,” said Minnewaska Area Schools Superintendent Chip Rankin. “In addition to providing greater access to preschool, it allows for those who live or work around Starbuck a more convenient option.”

Registration for the Little Lakers Preschool in both locations will open on March 1. Parents who want to learn more are encouraged to fill out the interest form: https://www.minnewaska.k12.mn.us/little-lakers-preschool/.

Parents who have completed the form will be contacted with more information. There will also be a preschool parent information meeting for anyone potentially interested in enrolling in the Minnewaska preschool program. This will be a great opportunity to meet the preschool staff, ask any questions, and tour a preschool classroom.
