G.C. Wollan reported a part of Lobeck’s speech before the Glenwood WTCU “By Request” in last week’s Herald. We are surprised to find prohibition extracts to the Herald even “by request” considering the narrow-minded editor of that paper hates prohibition.

We understand that E.P. Lindgren of this place had a wordy war with the Glenwood bunch while in their city last Monday. We have not found out just what it was all about, but knowing a little something of the Swede, we’ll bet on him sight unseen. As our gentle advice to the bunch would be that they’ll probably have their hands and heads full without irritating E. P. till he tells what he knows on top of everything else.

The farmers in the neighborhood are busy hauling grain to the New Prairie Elevator.

That the implementation of a new federally-mandated lunch standard at the area schools would be accepted with open arms may have been a high expectation. The Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, which launched new federal school lunch criterions, has some barking at the new menu offerings. The school lunch standards have been implemented in stages since 2010, and up to this years, haven’t been too noticeable at the plate level at Minnewaska Area Schools. At the start of the 2012-13 school year, however, the changes were hard to miss.

The Lakers’ wrestling team ended their holiday break by competing in Benson, Ortonville and  Hancock in a five-day span. The Lakers were set to host their annual Minnewaska Duals on Saturday, but the  meet was canceled due to cold and poor road conditions in west central Minnesota. Minnewaska rolled past Ortonville and then nipped West Central Area to win the Ortonville Triangular on Tuesday.

At the first meeting of 2013, Pope County commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Larry Lindor as board chair; Lindor represents District 4. Cody Rogahn, District 5, was unanimously appointed as vice chair.
