The Eastern Star celebrates 25 years

From the Pope County Tribune, Thursday, April 19, 1923.

The Eastern Star will celebrate their 25th anniversary in the Masonic hall Thursday evening. This will be an old time party and all are asked to come dressed in old style costume.

Glenwood passed through Friday the 13th with two fire calls and the birthday of our prominent citizen, cooperative creamery and dairy booster, C.O. Ettesvold. Carl was forty years on Saturday and he let his friends know it by inviting them down to his office where coffee, cake, and doughnuts were served. Carl’s friends also remembered his birthday as he received a small glass jar full of striped candy sticks.

Henry Olson was having a race with his hogs on the state road in Langhei last Monday. Who did win the race?

From the Glenwood Herald, Thursday, April 19, 1923.

G.O. Stevens, the barber whom we mentioned some time ago as coming from Forada and buying the Tom Brown barber shop, is now located in Glenwood with his family and the shop is open every day for the patronage of the Glenwood people. The barber shop was closed last Monday while it was repainted and otherwise remodeled. The shop presents a very neat appearance and we are sure that the people of Glenwood will get the same efficient and courteous treatment there that they have in the past. Another man will be added to the force as soon as the business warrants it.

From the Starbuck Times, Friday, April 20, 1923.

Manager Ole Olson of the Starbuck Milling Co., is wearing a smile these days caused by the smooth working of his new engine installed last week to furnish power to run the mill. It is a 50 h.p. engine, using kerosene or distillate for fuel and consumes about 2 gallons per hour. At the present time he is using kerosene as distillate cannot be procured except in carload lots and a storage tank must be erected to handle such a quantity at a time.

Ethel Wesen and Louise Friedman are doing the cooking at Wesen’s Café.
