The Minnewaska Area softball team lost four games last week to drop to 1-9 in the WCC and 1-11 overall.  The Lakers opened up last week’s action with a 16-0, 17-0 doubleheader loss at league-leading Morris Area before losing at home, Friday, to Brandon-Evansville, 13-3.

The Lakers also lost a 10-1 decision at West Central Area, Thursday, but stats from that game were not available by presstime.

This week, Minnewaska Area is set to host Benson for a doubleheader, Tuesday (tomorrow) before playing a game at Osakis, Thursday, May 18.  Also coming up is the start of the Section 3AA Softball Tournament, Tuesday, May 23.

Morris 16-17, Waska 0-0

The Lakers were swept in a doubleheader by Morris Area last Tuesday night, 16-0 and 17-0.  Minnewaska Area managed just four total hits during the twin bill against the perennially strong Morris softball program.

Mataya Mix took the loss in the first game, dropping to 1-5 overall, while Leslie Murken pitched the nightcap, falling to 0-4 on the mound this spring.

Mix had the only hit for the Lakers in the first game as Morris Area scored at least three runs in every inning to half the game in the bottom-half of the fourth due to the 15-run rule.

In the second game, Morris scored 10 runs in fourth inning to end the game early again after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

In the second game, Ally Mogard, Emma Poegel and Mesa Kittelson had the only hits for the Lakers.

B-E 13, Minnewaska 3

The Lakers lost their fourth-straight game of the week with a 13-3 home loss to Brandon-Evansville, Friday, playing in a light rain the entire game.  B-E belted out 18 hits and scored 13 runs to end the game after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Emma Poegel went 2-for-3 with a run for half of the Lakers’ hits, while Leslie Murken had a single, run scored and stolen base and Grace Larson also had a hit for Minnewaska.

Mataya Mix took the loss.  She was hurt by eight Laker errors, leading to seven unearned runs.  Ally Mogard also scored a run and Ava Staples had an RBI for the Lakers.
