The Starbuck Stars scored three runs in the fifth inning to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead on the way to a 5-3 victory at Norway Lake-Sunburg, Sunday afternoon.

The Stars, who improved to 1-1 for the season with the win, were led by Austin Versteeg, who not only pitched the first four innings but also had two of his team’s four hits.

Starbuck is set to host Clinton this Friday at 7:30 p.m. followed by a game at Paynesville, Sunday.

Starbuck 5, NL-Sun 3

Three Starbuck pitchers combined for a seven-hit 5-3 victory over Norway Lake-Sunburg, Sunday afternoon.

Austin Versteeg had two of his team’s four hits and also scored twice, while Austin Friese and Torii Johnson also had hits and Drew Olsonaski and Connor Erickson scored runs.

Versteeg started on the mound, but left after pitching four innings with the Stars up 4-2.  Olsonaski came in to pitch four scoreless innings and was credited with the win, while Marc Gruber pitched one inning of relief.

Starbuck, which was issued 10 walks, left 12 runners on base, while NL-Sunburg, which was led by Jared Cortez’ three hits, left 10 runners on base.
