Gasser, manager of Northern States Power, said that the company suffered damage in the communities of Glenwood, Starbuck, Long Beach, Lowry, Sedan, Brooten and farm damage at Villard.

Five new teachers were hired at the Glenwood Public Schools. They included June La Rose, Diane Wawers, Clarice Bredeson, Judith Miller and Helen Hendricks.

Tuberculosis increased in 24 counties of the state during the five years ending in 1962. It also caused a number of deaths, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

August 16, 1973 – James M. Kinney, publisher of the Pope County Tribune, announced that he had hired a new editor for the newspaper. John R. August 18, 1983 – The Tribune reported that a “million dollar rain” had fallen, snapping a 43-day dry spell. A thunderstorm dropped over 2 inches of rain, delivering a respite from what might have been a disaster for the corn and soybean crops. Some areas of the county received as much as 2.5 inches. Lightning accompanying the storm caused minor damage around the county.

Glenwood took a step toward bringing new industry to the area and keeping what it already has.  The Glenwood City Commission voted unanimously to apply to be part of a new venture called the Job Opportunity Building Zone. The program was established by the Minnesota State Legislature to create tax-exempt zones that can be used to entice industry and business to build in those zones.

August 12, 2013 – Waterama 2013 proved to be an anomaly. “Overall, in the 17 years I’ve been here, this was by far the most subdued, or quiet Waterama,” said Glenwood Police Chief Dale Danter. Everything that normally ramps up with a busy Waterama weekend – calls, fights, arrests, domestics – were down across the board this year, he said.
