The Minnewaska Area cross-country teams placed third and fifth at the Wadena-Deer Creek Invitational last Tuesday night.  WDC won the girls’ title by 11 points over runner-up Little Falls, while Bertha-Hewitt edged Park Rapids for the boys’ title.

Leading the way for the Lakers were Lauryn Ankeny in second and Piper Citrowske-Lee in 21st for the girls’ team and Maeson Tank in third, Zach Palmer in 10th and Ian Mills in 22nd for the boys.

The Lakers, who also competed at the MSU Moorhead 8th annual Dragon Twilight Invitational, Friday, have two meets scheduled this week beginning with the Long Prairie-GE Invitational, Monday (today) and the NLS Invitational, Thursday, Sept. 14.

At Moorhead, Perham won the 23-team boys title by 56 points over runner-up Moorhead (50-106), while the Lakers were 11th with 346 points.  Out of 183 runners, Maeson Tank was 23rd (16:52), Zach Palmer earned 52nd (17:34), Ian Mills was 67th (17:50), Carter Dinsmore placed 131st (19:59), Luke Hoffmann was 148th (20:53), Ryan Koehntop placed 160th (21:37) and Chase Wacker was 171st (22:40).

In the girls competition, Perham won the 14-team title with 68 points, followed closely by Red River (90) and Moorhead (92) with Minnewaska Area placing 11th with 270 points.

Leading the way for the Lakers was Lauryn Ankeny in eighth place  out of 139 girls with a time of (19:21), followed by Piper Citrowske-Lee in 84th (22:33), Teagan Stark in 86th (22:41), Aubrey Stark in 89th place (22:50), Sydney Ankeny in 91st (22:55), Sophia Wallin in 98th (23:08) and Izzy Bautista in 114th (24:08).

at WDC Invitational

Wadena-Deer Creek had runners place ninth, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th on the way to winning the 10-team girls’ title with 49 points.  Little Falls, which had the top runner in Malin Youngberg (20:55), placed second with 60 points, followed by Minnewaska Area with 92, LPGE with 119 and Sauk Centre in fifth with 149 points.

Lauryn Ankeny ran a time of 21:06 to earn second overall among 79 runners in the girls’ race, while Piper Citrowske-Lee was 21st (23:41).

In addition, Sophia Wallin placed 27th for the Lakers (24:11), Teagan Stark was 28th (24:19), Sydney Ankeny was 29th (24:21), Aubrey Stark placed 30th (24:35), Izzy Bautista was 38th (25:22) and Autumn Hess earned 61st (28:35) as the Lakers had eight runners in the varsity competition.

In the boys race, Zane Guderjahn placed first for Bertha-Hewitt with a time of 17:04, while Owen Winter of DGF was second (17:27) and Maeson Tank edged another runner from Sauk Centre for third (17:40).

Bertha-Hewitt earned the 11-team title with 50 points, followed by Park Rapids Area (66), Sauk Centre (71), DGF (82) and Minnewaska Area (118).

The Lakers also had two other runners place among the top 25 as Zach Palmer earned 10th (18:33) and Ian Mills was 22nd (19:32).  Other runners for Minnewaska Area were Jayce Kovarik in 38th (20:38), Carter Dinsmore in 49th (21:58), Luke Hoffmann in 55th (22:20), Ryan Koehntop in 57th (22:28) and Chase Wacker placed 58th (22:28).

•  In the girls’ junior high race of 3,200 meters, the Lakers’ Nori Song won the individual title with a time of 14:52, while Jillian Deustch placed third (15:36) and Ayden Svenning earned 42nd (20:47).  There were 49 total runners.

In the boys’ junior high race, Rylan Tank earned 14th place for the Lakers with a time of 15:11.  Winning the 68-runner race was WDC’s Brennan Simmons in 13:19.Minnewaska did not any runners in the JV races.
