Sauk Centre scored 30 unanswered points on the way to a 46-8 victory over Minnewaska Area, Friday night at Sauk Centre.  The Lakers fell to 0-2 heading into this week’s home game against Pierz, set for 7 p.m., Friday.

Sauk Centre scored the first two touchdowns to go up 16-0 early in the second quarter, but the Lakers cut the deficit in half when Levi Johnson hit Myles Reichmann for an 8-yard touchdown pass and then connected with Austin Ballhagen for the two-point conversion.

Sauk Centre scored again with 20 seconds left in the first half to increase its lead to 24-8 and then scored the only 22 points in the second half for the 46-8 win.

The Mainstreeters held a 16-14 advantage in first downs and 318-196 edge in total yards, including a 206-68 advantage in passing yards.

Four of Sauk Centre’s touchdowns were passing TD’s from quarterback Damian Ahrens to receiver Jay Neubert, who ended the game with eight catches for 125 yards.

Minnewaska had 128 yards rushing, including 57 on 12 carries by Jack Majerus, 30 yards on nine totes by Asante Adams and 27 yards on four rushes by Myles Reichmann.

Levi Johnson, who rushed 10 times for 17 yards, completed 4-of-11 passes for 71 yards, including two throws to Ballhagen for 58 yards and one each to Reichmann and Austin Weber.

•  This year’s roster, which includes 11 seniors, 16 juniors and 20 sophomores, totals 47 players in grades 10-12.  Assisting coach Lyle this fall are Matt Meagher, Jason Weber, Jeremy Christensen, Brian Gruber, Zach Traphagen and Nathan Snider.
