FERGUS FALLS, MINN — West Central Initiative envisions a future where all people feel welcome, appreciated for their unique attributes, and connected to their neighbors, communities, and natural environments. During the month of September, West Central Initiative will sponsor more than 30 Welcoming Week celebrations across the nine counties of west central Minnesota.

Welcoming Week is an initiative through Welcoming America that provides individuals and communities the opportunity to proclaim welcoming values through events and local initiatives that foster a deeper sense of belonging for all, including immigrants and refugees. Welcoming Week celebrations build strong communities and affirm the importance of welcoming and inclusive places in achieving collective prosperity.

“We love west central Minnesota because of our deep sense of community, and we’re proud to sponsor events promoting belonging in our region,” said Celeste Koppe, Rural Initiatives Strategist at West Central Initiative. “With more than twice as many events as last year, we’re hoping everyone can find a nearby event to embrace the spirit of Welcoming Week!”

2023 Welcoming Week Events in Pope County include:

•Glacial Hills Elementary School Togetherness Initiative in Starbuck on September 9.

•Exploring Glenwood on September 13.
