The Minnewaska Area volleyball team came within one point of taking a two games to none lead over BOLD during a WCC match at home, Thursday, but the Warriors came roaring back to win game two and then proceeded to win the match in four games to avert the upset, 14-25, 28-26, 25-22, 25-22.

Two nights earlier, the Lakers gave up just 27 points in winning by a sweep at Montevideo, 25-6, 25-9, 25-12.

Minnewaska Area has had five-straight weeks of playing a match on Tuesday and Thursday this fall and this is the fifth-straight week the Lakers have split those two matches.

The Lakers are 8-6 overall and 5-5 in the WCC with four conference matches and two invitationals left on the regular-season schedule.

This week, the Lakers do not play on Tuesday, but Minnewaska Area does play at West Central Area, Thursday, and at the Alexandria Invitational, Saturday.

Minnewaska 3, Monte 0

The Lakers swept Montevideo in a WCC match on the road last Tuesday night, 25-6, 25-9, 25-12.  Minnewaska Area also won in three games when the two teams played during the third match of the season at MAHS.

Ninth-grader Haillie Schulz had a great match for the Lakers with 10 kills and 13 set assists, while Avery Fier had another great all-around match with three ace-serves, eight kills and six digs.

The Lakers, 5-4 in the conference, stayed in a tie with Melrose Area for fourth place in the WCC following the win.

BOLD 3, Minnewaska 1

The Lakers won more points than the visiting Warriors (95-92), but BOLD rallied for a four-game victory after winning a tight game two, 28-26.

Minnewaska dominated the first game, taking leads of 9-4, 13-11 on a kill by Haillie Schulz, 16-13 on a kill by Avery Fier, and 19-14, which caused BOLD to take a timeout.

Two-straight service point by Dreya Barsness increased the lead to 23-14 and a block on game point gave the Lakers the first game at 25-14.

The Lakers also led for most of game two after the two teams were tied early, 5-5.  A kill by Barsness put the Lakers up 13-9 and a kill by Fier kept Waska out in front, 20-16.

BOLD cut the lead to 20-18, but two kills by Barsness put the Lakers up 22-19 and an ace-tip by Miaya Guggisberg gave the Lakers game-point at 24-21.

That game point never came as the Warriors rallied for the 28-26 victory and then went on to win the final two games by 25-22 scores to complete the four-game victory.

Barsness had 15 kills, 20 digs and three ace-serves to lead the Lakers, while Haillie Schulz added three ace-serves, 25 set assists, four kills and five digs.

Senior Ady Knake had 19 kills to lead the Warriors, while Grace Tersteeg added nine kills, four blocks and 25 digs.
