From the Glenwood Herald, Thursday, November 29, 1923.

A few chess enthusiasts met at the home of J.H. Thoreson last Thursday evening. A number of games of chess were played, but it was not definitely decided as to who is the chess champion in the city.

Two fellows driving a car came to the grade building the other day and began soliciting the teachers for magazine subscriptions during school hours. They were quite troublesome and it took the combined efforts of both Mr. Pryor and Mr. Connolley to get them out and it was necessary to send in a call to the police before they made any move to get out. When they did leave they got in their car and left in a hurry. It might be well for other schools in the vicinity to be on the lookout for them and call the policeman right away.

From the Starbuck Times, Friday, November 30, 1923.

The Thanksgiving program given by the Starbuck Fire Department drew one of the largest audiences ever packed into the town hall. There were about 360 paid admissions totaling $90, and the firemen’s treasurer stated that there were at least 500 people packed into the hall. The business men of the village donated the money for advertising the program, but so generous was their donation that the firemen were able to put the largest part of it into their treasury. Their total receipts were $111.90

This week the first issue of the school paper, the “Cyrusonian” was issued. It is a four page paper containing news and various articles all written by the high school pupils. It is a fine product and we should be eager to boost it along. Be a booster and not a knocker as they are taken care of by the undertaker.
