Lake Minnewaska, along with many area lakes, was completely ice-covered by last Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023. Above, a sunset over Lake Minnewaska was captured by Shannon League of Lowry on Monday, Nov. 27. The wind that day kept much of the lake open, but when it died down after sunset the ice took over. The sunset is signaling the end of the day and the end of the open water season for Lake Minnewaska.

Following a cold snap after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and once the winds died down on Monday night, Lake Minnewaska was completely ice covered on Tuesday, Nov. 28.  Pelican Lake was also completely ice-covered on Nov. 28, according to a lakeshore resident there.  At right are the ice-on dates for Lake Minnewaska, recorded since 1958.
