Alice Wallace kicks off Central Square 2024 Concert Series

Celebrating its 20th year, Central Square’s annual music series opening night on April 20th, will feature award winning Americana singer/songwriter Alice Wallace.

Wallace has gathered an impressive list of accolades throughout her career. In 2019, Rolling Stone magazine named her song “Blue” as one of the 10 best Country and Americana songs of that year.

“Our staff came across a video of Alice performing, and we knew that if we could get her to come to Glenwood, and IF we could afford to get her to come to Glenwood, we just had to,” said Jes Baggett, program manager at Central Square. “Everything about her seemed like something our community would be excited to see and hear. Her voice is beautiful. We are incredibly excited to have her open our series this year,” Baggett added.

Minnesota artist, Jim Grafsgaard, who will be in residency at Central Square from April 15-26, will host a reception for his work “Gathered in the Moss,” a painting that spans an impressive 30-feet in length, on the concert series opening night. Grafsgaard’s geo expressionist piece of art was created during his residency with Artist at Pine Needles, sponsored by the Science Museum of Minnesota. “It’s an astonishing piece of work,” stated Marie Chan, executive director of Central Square.

Grafsgaard, a visual artist, is a longtime friend of Central Square’s former executive director, Cheryl Larson. His work has been exhibited in an impressive list of notable locations, such as Minnesota, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, and the UK, among others.

Grafsgaard will meet with students from Minnewaska Area Schools during his residency as part of Central Square’s commitment to making high quality arts engagement accessible to students in our community.

Tickets for the Alice Wallace concert on April 20th at 7pm are available online at centralsquare.org or through the Central Square office. The reception for Jim Grafsgaard is free and open to the public. Call 320-634-0400 for more information.
