The Minnewaska Area baseball team stayed unbeaten in the WCC after pulling out two close home wins over Montevideo last Tuesday night (4-0) and against Melrose Area, Thursday.  Both games were the first of a scheduled doubleheader, but both times, the second game was postponed due to weather.

One of the heroes of each game was Noah Jensen, who went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer against Montevideo and 3-for-4 with a walk-off two-run double against Melrose.

Alex Panitzke improved to 3-0 on the mound with the complete-game win over the Thunderhawks, and Ryland Martin improved to 2-0 with a complete-game victory over Melrose,

The Lakers are set to stay at home this week with a doubleheader against WCA set for Tuesday (tomorrow) and a game against KMS scheduled for Friday.  Waska will also make up the game with Melrose, Monday, May 6.

During the win over Melrose, Jack Majerus stole two bases to become the all-time leader at Minnewaska Area.  He now has 44 for his career.

Waska 4, Montevideo 0

The Lakers improved to 6-1 overall with a 4-0 victory over Montevideo in the first game of a doubleheader last Tuesday night at home.

Minnewaska and Montevideo were tied 1-1 in the fourth inning of the second game before the contest was halted due to a rainstorm.

In the first game, Alex Panitzke pitched a complete-game one-hitter and was also 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

The Lakers scored a run in the first and added two more in the third on a two-run homer by Noah Jensen, who was also 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI.

Jack Majerus scored the first run for the Lakers and also came home on the Jensen homer.  Majerus was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Adding one hit each were Dylan Alexander, Austin Weber (double) and Nathan Dell.

Panitzke gave up just one hit and one walk while striking out five.  He improves to 3-0 for the year.

Waska 3, Melrose 2

The Lakers plated two runs with one out in the bottom-half of the seventh inning to pull out a 3-2 victory against Melrose Area, Friday night at home.

The Lakers outhit the visitors, 10-3, but still trailed 2-1 going into their final at-bat.  Jack Majerus led off the seventh by reaching on an error and then stole second base before being sacrificed to third by Levi Johnson.

A walk to Dylan Alexander put runners at first and third and set the stage for Noah Jensen, who delivered once again with a two-run double to give the Lakers the exciting win.

The stolen base by Majerus not only set the stage for the big rally, but also broke the all-time record at Minnewaska Area, giving him 44 for his career.

Jensen ended the game 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, while Connor Erickson was 2-for-3.  Adding one hit each were Majerus, Johnson, Austin Weber, Alex Panitzke and Nathan Dell, while Ryland Martin won his second game this season on the mound, giving up just three hits, no earned runs and four walks while fanning eight Melrose batters.
