The Minnewaska Area track and field teams had a busy week, hosting a meet at home last Monday night and also competing at the Sauk Centre Invitational, Thursday.

The girls’ team won both meets, while the Laker boys were second in both competitions.

This week, the teams have two more meets scheduled as the Lakers are set to host their final home invitational, Tuesday (tomorrow) before racing at the NLS Invitational, Thursday, May 4.

Minnewaska Invitational

McKenzie Luetmer, Brooke Kolstoe, Elsey Hagen and Phemie Oeltjen had individual firsts to lead the Minnewaska girls track team to a first at a 6-team home meet last Monday.

The Lakers also won three of the four relays on the way to totaling 206 points, while runner-up Sauk Centre had 132.  The top six place finishers scored points with scoring going 10-8-6-4-2-1.

Luetmer won the 400 meter dash (1:02.98) with Lauryn Ankeny placing second (1:03.5) and Teagan Stark adding third (1:05.32) for 24 Laker points.

Brooke Kolstoe earned first in the 800 meter run (2:38.97) with Esryn Dahl right behind in second (1:05.32), while Elsey Hagen earned first in the 3200 meter run (12:53.98) and was also second in the 1600 (6:04.36) and Oeltjen placed first in the pole vault (7-6) and was also fifth in the high jump (4-4).

Also placing first were the 400, 1600 and 3200 meter relays.  The 400 meter relay team of Dacia Fleury, Brooklyn Meyer, Lyla Stadtherr and Mya Lindemann was first in 54.78, while the 1600 meter relay team of Teagan Stark, Dahl, Ankeny and Luetmer was first in 4:24.94, and the 3200 meter relay team of Kolstoe, Stark, Luetmer and Ankeny was also first with a time of 10:27.3.

The Lakers scored points in all 18 of the events during the meet.

Meyer was also third (20.36) and Stadtherr sixth (21.65) in the 100 meter hurdles, while Fleury was second (54.26), Aubrey Stark was fifth (56.95) and Meyer sixth (57.32) in the 300 meter hurdles.

Fleury was also third (13.99) and Lindemann fourth (14.03) in the 100 meter dash, while Lindemann added a second for another eight points in the 200 with a time of 29.24.

Kiearra Wilmes picked up points in two events with a third in the 1600 (6:12.28) and second in the 3200 (13:09.39), while Piper Citrowske-Lee was fifth in the 1600 (6:14.02) and Sydney Ankeny was third in the 3200 (13:48.18).

Jayda Kolstoe earned 16 points in the weight events with seconds in the shot put (34-9) and discus (89-7), while Olivia Danielson was third in the discus (82-0) and fifth in the shot put (27-6), and Brooke Kolstoe was fifth in the discus (78-10).

Also earning points for the Lakers were Lexi Bosek, fourth (6-6) and Kendra Wilmes, sixth (6-0) in the pole vault; Lindemann, fifth in the triple jump (29-6 1/4); Fleury second (31-1) and Luetmer fifth (29-6 1/4) in the triple jump; and the 800 meter relay team of Emma Hellermann, Payton Andreas, Stadtherr and Randt, which was fourth in 2:03.52.

Overall, the Lakers won 7-of-18 individual events with Sauk Centre winning five and WCA adding three firsts.

•  In the boys competition, Sauk Centre won eight events on the way to placing first with 224 points, while the Lakers were second with 140.5 points and three firsts.

Maeson Tank placed first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.74 and was also third in the 800 meter run (2:15.83).  Jayce Kovarik added a first in the pole vault (9-6) with Conner Stein earning third (8-6), while the Minnewaska Area team of James Ward, Tank, Kovarik and Nick Ankeny also placed first in the 3200 meter relay with a time of 8:53.82.

The Lakers earned 14 points in the hurdles as Owen Meulebroeck was third in the 110 meter (19.09) and 300 meter hurdles (46.57), and Hunter Stadsvold added a fifth in the 300s (48.65).

In the field events, Jacob Mrnak was fifth in the discus (100-9), Blake Andreas was fourth in the high jump (5-2) and sixth in the long jump (17-2 1/2), James Ward was tied for sixth in the high jump (5-0), and Meuelebroeck was fourth (35-7 1/2), Kaiden Harvey fifth (35-4) and Ankeny sixth (34-8 1/2) in the triple jump.

Minnewaska Area earned 32 points in the four relays as the 800 meter team of Carter Meyer, Tristan O’Neil, Meulebroeck and Kaiden Harvey was second in 1:39.57, the 400 meter relay team of O’Neil, Josh Hippe, Kolton Rogers and Stein was second in 49.66, and the 1600 meter team of Ankeny, Jaden Anderson, Kovarik and Ward was third in 3:55.3.

Zach Palmer added a second in the 3200 meter run (11:22.44) and was also fourth in the 1600 (5:19.18), while Ian Mills placed sixth in the 1600 (5:27.26) and Carter Dinsmore picked up two points with a fifth in the 3200 (12:05.96).

The Lakers also earned 32 points in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.  Carter Meyer earned second in the 100 (12.23) and 200 (25.67), while Kaiden Harvey was third in both races and Josh Hippe added a fourth in the 200 (26.63).

Sauk Centre Invitational

The Lakers competed at Sauk Centre, Thursday, with the girls winning the 7-team title by 47.5 points over runner-up Paynesville and the boys’ team placing second of eight teams in a meet won by Sauk Centre.

Due to wet track conditions, the meet did not include the two hurdling races, pole vault, or the three jumps (high, triple and long).

Earning firsts for the girls were Lauryn Ankeny in the 400 meter dash (1:04.12), Brooke Kolstoe in the 800 meter run (2:41), Elsey Hagen in the 3200 meter run (13:05.5), Jayda Kolstoe in the shots put (36-6) and discus (116-3 1/2) and the 1600 and 3200 meter relay teams.

The 1600 meter relay team of Teagan Stark, Esryn Dahl, Ankeny and McKenzie Luetmer placed first in 4:27.4, while the 3200 meter relay team of Brooke Kolstoe, Dahl, Ankeny and Luetmer was also first with a time of 10:39.51.

In addition, the 400 meter relay team of Dacia Fleury, Brooklyn Meyer, Lyla Stadtherr and Mya Lindemann placed third in 56.03, while the 800 meter relay team of Alannah Christensen, Payton Andreas, Stadtherr and Alia Randt was fourth in 2:07.59.

Luetmer was also second in the 400 meter dash (1:06.01), while Kiearra Wilmes placed second in the 3200 meter run (13:22), Makena Thoen was third in the 800 meter run (2:45.9) and Sophia Wallin was third in the 3200 meter run (14:23).

The Lakers won seven of the 12 events, while Paynesville had four firsts.

•  In the boys competition, the Lakers earned one win by the 3200 meter relay team of James Ward, Jayce Kovarik, Nick Ankeny and Maeson Tank (9:05.96).

The 1600 meter relay team of Ward, Kovarik, Ankeny and Tank added a second place finish in 3:53, while the 800 meter relay team of Carter Meyer, Tristan O’Neil, Owen Meulebroeck and Kaiden Harvey was third with a time of 1:38.8, and the 400 meter relay team of O’Neil, Harvey, Meyer and Conner Stein was also third in 48.79.

Tank also placed second in the 1600 meter run (4:53.87), while Zach Palmer was third in the 3200 meter run (11:37) and fourth in the 1600 (5:24.19), and Ward was also third in the 800 meter run (2:35.3).

Overall, Montevideo won six of the 12 individual events, while Sauk Centre had five firsts and Minnewaska Area had one.
