The Starbuck Stars baseball team opened up the 2023 schedule with an 8-0 loss to Regal, Sunday afternoon at Marthaler Field at Minnewaska Area High School.

The Lakers trailed just 2-0 through six innings before the Eagles scored six runs over the final three innings.

Starbuck was also set to play at Kensington, Saturday, but that game was canceled due to lack of players.

Coming up this week is a game at Norway Lake-Sunburg at 7:30 p.m., Friday followed by the next home game set for Friday, May 19 against Clinton.

Regal 8, Starbuck 0

Regal scored at least one run in five of their nine at-bats during an 8-0 victory over Starbuck, Sunday afternoon.

The Lakers had their chances to score, including the fourth inning where they had runners on first and second with no outs and runners on first and third with one out but failed to score.

Austin Versteeg went 2-for-4 to lead a six-hit attack for the Stars, while Torii Johnson, Jackson Hendrickson, Austin Friese and Marc Gruber had one hit each.

Versteeg, the first of four Starbuck pitchers, took the loss despite giving up just two hits and one earned run over three innings.

Also pitching were Drew Olsonaski, Torii Johnson and Andrew Toop.
