Francis O’Malley and the Montevideo Thunderhawks ran past the Lakers, Friday night, as O’Malley amassed 235 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Montevideo to a 44-22 victory.

The Lakers scored the first touchdown of the game, but Montevideo would answer back with 38 unanswered points to take control of the game.  Montevideo led 16-6 at halftime and 32-6 after three quarters before settling for the 22-point win.

Minnewaska Area fell to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the sub-district with the loss.  The Lakers will be back in action at 7 p.m., Friday, at Albany.  The Huskies just lost their first sub-district game this past Friday to Rockford.

The Lakers will close out the regular-season, Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Melrose before commencing with the Section 6AAA playoffs, Tuesday, Oct. 22.

•  Austin Ballhagen scored the first touchdown for the Lakers on a 37-yard pass from Levi Johnson midway through the first quarter.  The kick failed, but suddenly, the Lakers were up 6-0.

The Lakers’ only lost fumble of the game (of course, O’Malley recovered) led to the Thunderhawks first score of the game on a 24-yard run by Landon Olson, who ended the game with 68 yards on 10 carries.

O’Malley took over from there, scoring on runs of 8, 29 and 4 yards, while wearing the Lakers out with his bruising running style.

Tosten Christenson’s 52-yard interception return for a touchdown put Montevideo up 38-6 before the Lakers scored two touchdowns in the final quarter.

Austin Weber hauled in a 24-yard pass from Johnson for one score (Tristan O’Neill ran for two points), and, after O’Malley scored his fourth touchdown on a 66-yard run, O’Neill scored on a 78-yard pass from Johnson late in the fourth quarter and also ran for the two-point conversion.

Montevideo held advantages of 21-11 in first downs and 375-306 in total yards.  Minnewaska had a big edge in passing yards, 179-27.

Jack Majerus ended the game with 79 yards on eight carries and Asante Adams added 54 yards on nine rushes.  Johnson completed 8-of-13 passes for 179 yards, including four for 53 yards to Ballhagen and two for 102 yards to O’Neill.
