Speaking of Sports

I’ve been on several week-long vacations and I’ve always said a week is just a little too long for me.  Give me 3-4 days and that’s all I need to get refreshed.  If I had to take a week or longer for a vacation, I’ve often thought that it would be much better if I could take a 3 day break to Florida and then come back to Minnesota for a week or two and then go back to Florida for another 3-4 days; now, that would be perfect.

Of course, that doesn’t work so I end up just trying to enjoy the last few days of the vacation and almost look forward to coming back to Minnesota.  However, once I’m back for a few days, it doesn’t take long before I want to get right back to Florida . . .

I was thinking the other day how that might work for the months of the year.  I think it’s safe to say that we all enjoy April through October, but sort of dread November through March.  What if we could have the months of the year in any order we wanted?  The only requirement would be that when we had a particular month, we’d also get the weather that came along with it.

For me, I’d take March, April, May and June just the way and order they are.  After June 30, when I’m getting just a little tired of the hot weather, I’d moved forward to November and December to start getting used to the cold and enjoy the holiday season.

After December 31, let’s go back to July and August to enjoy the rest of the great summer.  These are very hot months, but after going through the holidays in November and December, the Dogs Days of the Summer is just what I’d want.

Once Aug. 31 comes around, let’s go forward to January 1 and get done with that month before coming back to September and October.  Hey, I wonder if I could celebrate New Year’s Eve on Aug. 31?

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, but I really don’t like going right into the cold-weather season following trick-or-treating.  And, a lot of times, October also brings some snow with it.

Well, in my made-up calendar year, we go from Halloween night right into February 1.  Heck, we can handle February and early March, knowing that the best of the year is yet to come.

Yes, that’s how I’d do it.  February, March, April, May, June, November, December, July, August, January, September and October.  Heck, that’s not bad at all.  We can always handle one bad month if we know a good month is right behind.

And, that’s kind of the way I feel on an extra-long vacation.  I’m always excited to get home after a long vacation, but then it takes only a few days back home before I want to get right back on more vacation.

Same with too much hot weather in a row; we wish for some cool or overcast days, but when we have too many, we wish for those beautiful, sunny days again.

Now that I’ve come up with my order of months, what order would you have the months if you could pick their order?
