The Laker trap team had a beautiful night to shoot their reserve week scores, Sunday, April 14.  Reserve week are scores submitted to be used in the event the team cannot shoot in a competition week for some reason.  These scores are also used as tie breakers at the end of the season.

“We have 11 new shooters this year and they are coming along really well,” coach Jennie Stone said.  “Our team average is just under 18 and with all of the new shooters, that is a good number.”

The Lakers are in the Class 3A, Conference 3 this year and will compete against Dilworth/Glyndon/Felton, Marshall, New York Mills, Red Rock Central, Rogers, Sebeka, and Simley.   Minnewaska is grouped with other schools that have the same size team, not based on the size of the school.

“Our older team members had a great showing this week with senior John Jenson leading the pack, crushing a 50 straight,” coach Stone said.  “This is the second time John has accomplished this, the first time was at State last year.

“Right on his tail was Dylan VanZee and Levi Schultz, both with an impressive 48 x 50.  It won’t be long now and we generally see things gel for the whole team.  The newer shooters start understanding the process and the older shooters are getting the dust out so to speak. We have a solid team again this year and we are very excited to see how things unfold.”

The first actual competition is set for Sunday, April 21.
