Cross-country teams win titles at LQP Invitational

The Lakers came home with both champions at the Lac qui Parle Invitational, Thursday, Sept. 1. Lauryn Ankeny was first and teammate Kiearra Wilmes was second in the girls’ race and Maeson Tank earned the boys’ title during the seven-team race.
In addition, the Laker girls won the team title by 11 points over the host Eagles. In the boys’ meet, the Lakers finished second behind LQP-DB.
Minnewaska Area was also set to compete at the Milbank Invitational, Saturday, but results from that meet were not available by the deadline and they will be highlighted next week. Coming up this week is the NLS Invitational, set for Thursday, followed by the Melrose Invitational, Tuesday, Sept. 20.
at LQP Invitational
Lauryn Ankeny, Kiearra Wilmes and Maeson Tank highlighted the Lakers’ efforts at the Lac qui Parle Invitational, Sept. 1.
Ankeny placed first in the girls’ race with a time of 16:46 over the 4K race length and Wilmes was second in 17:43 as Minnewaska Area won the meet with 30 points, followed by LQP-DB (41), Morris Area (52) and Montevideo (102).
Elsey Hagen added a seventh place finish with a time of 19:16, followed by Piper Citrowske in 11th (19:46), Teagan Stark in 14th (20:14), Aubrey Stark in 16th (20:34), Autumn Hess in 20th (21:22), Izzy Bautista in 21st (21:25) and Alexx Carlson in 24th (21:39).
• In the boys’ race, Maeson Tank led all runners with a time of 14:06 to place first, winning by two seconds over Gavin Carl, of LQP-DB.
Jace Kovarik was next for the Lakers in 11th place with a time of 15:35, followed on the Minnewaska team by Zach Palmer in 15th (16:13), Nick Ankeny in 16th (16:14), James Ward in 25th (16:55), Ian Mills in 32nd (17:09) and Carter Dinsmore in 43rd place (18:28) out of the 50 total boy runners.
• In the JV races, Minnewaska had four runners in the boys’ 4K race, won by Gannon Reidinger of Montevideo in 16:23, with Chase Wacker placing 10th (18:13), Jaden Anderson earning 20th (19:34), Caden Manderschied placing 25th (20:21) and Ryan Koehntop placing 28th (21:10).
In the boys’ 2K 7th-8th grade race, Owen Greene was sixth for the Lakers with a time of 8:41 and Rylan Tank was 10th in 9:04 during a race won by Chris Diez, of Montevideo, in 8:00.
• Minnewaska Area had two runners during the girls’ 4K JV race. Alannah Christensen placed 10th with a time of 22:40 and Molly Hjelm was 12th in 23:35 during a race won by Shay Bothun, of LQP-DB, in 19:58.
During the girls’ 7th-8th grade race, won by BOLD’s Erika Martinson in 7:44, Sydney Ankeny was eighth for the Lakers with a time of 10:05 and Emma Koehntop was 15th with a time of 11:25.
