Although there is no official fall trap shooting this year at Minnewaska Area High School, several students did take part in a recent competition at the United Way Trap Tournament at Alexandria Shooting Park, Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Individual and team competitions, axe throwing, a raffle and games made for a night full of camaraderie and fun to support the community.

Participants shot two rounds of 25 clays and were scored as teams and individuals in Business and Junior Divisions for medaling.

In the Junior Team category, the Reichmann Homestead Farm team of Levi Schultz, Isaac Hennen, Mason Reichmann, August Reichmann and Dylan VanZee scored a 232 total to win by eight over the runner-up.

In the Business Team division, the Lowry Manufacturing 2 team of John Jenson, Luke Hoffmann, Carson Meyer and Tabbi Durand placed third with a score of 212.  Guns Galore LLC won the business team title with a score of 235.

In addition, the top score of the day received the High Gun Award and Isaac Hennen shot a 48-of-50 to earn the Junior Division Top Gun award.  Tying with Hennen, but losing out on a tiebreaker, was Mason Reichmann, who also shot 48-of-50.

•  Although Minnewaska Area High School is not competing in an official fall trap season, the fall season is underway for 3,712 student-athletes who are participating in the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League (MNSHSCTL) fall program, competing on 175 high school teams statewide.

The students’ six-week season began Sunday, Sept. 18 with a practice week to get them warmed up and to record reserve scores in case of weather or other issues. Weekly competition began on the Sept. 25, and top scoring teams and athletes will be recognized at the completion of fall competition in October.
